How it works
One question, two kinds of data: will the place look like the photo on your date?
Landmarks and museums (human data)
We track 306 landmarks in 55 destinations. Status comes from official notices (operators, heritage bodies, city halls), news reports and traveller forums, and from dated visitor photos sent through our report form. Each page shows the date we last checked and the source we relied on.
- Clear: no scaffolding or closure found when we last checked.
- Partial: works visible on part of the monument, or part of it closed.
- Covered: the main view is hidden.
- Closed: you cannot visit.
- Unconfirmed: sources disagree; we say so rather than guess.
Louvre gallery closures are copied from the museum's official open-rooms schedule for each weekday.
Tides, moon and sun (physics data)
Sun and moon positions, rise and set times, twilight and moon phases are computed with standard astronomical formulas (Meeus; the SunCalc approach). Expect rise and set times within about two minutes.
Tides are predicted from tidal constituents we fit to modelled hourly sea level from the Open-Meteo Marine API. Each tide page states how far our predicted high and low waters were from the model forecast in a test week. They are planning aids, not navigation or safety data: always follow posted crossing times.
